Benni Bosetto

1987, Merate, Italy
When I began thinking about the ventaglio, I imagined it as a container: a closed object that protects what is hidden within until it gradually reveals itself. I was drawn to ideas of secrecy, tenderness, and protection, As the fan opens, drawings slowly emerge: on one side, so-called “weeds” flowers, often dismissed as invasive, undesirable, or out of place, and on the other, a more hidden world of erotic fantasies and impronte corporee. For me, the ventaglio creates a dialogue between what is rejected, what is desired, and what remains concealed, while also holding the power to transport our bodies and imagination elsewhere.

Benni Bosetto

Ventaglio moves into the visionary world of Benni Bosetto – an Italian artist whose practice moves fluidly between drawing, sculpture, installation, and performance. Working with an intimate, often archetypal visual language, she explores the body as a site of reconstruction, where identity can dissolve, hybridise, and re-form.Her figures and forms feel both ancient and immediate: part ritual, part dream, part anatomy. Bosetto’s work often stages encounters between human and non-human presences, building worlds where fragility becomes strength and metamorphosis becomes a way of enduring, and evolving. In the context of Ventaglio, her approach brings a charged symbolism to the fan: not decoration, but a talisman of becoming – an object that carries motion, memory, and change.
