Leda Catunda

1961, São Paulo, Brazil
I liked the idea of creating a kind of visual constellation - a composition where forms, marks, and textures could meet, overlap, and begin a new conversation. I brought together paintings and drawings from different moments in my practice, combining fragments that had never before existed within a single image. The result is a dense and layered print: full of detail, and vibrant colour, with a slightly abstract quality that feels almost like an alphabet of shapes. I wanted the fan to hold that same sense of tactile vitality as it becomes something light, and in motion. On fabric, these forms take on another life - they begin to breathe differently, to open and close, and to reveal themselves through movement.

Leda Catunda

Ventaglio turns toward Leda Catunda’s tactile language, where material, colour, and touch become meaning. Catunda is a Brazilian artist celebrated for works that blur the line between painting and object. Working with textiles and everyday domestic materials, she treats the “support” as substance – stuffed, stitched, draped, and reworked, bringing a sense of circularity and resourcefulness to the act of making. Her visual world shifts between mass culture and craft, abstraction and pop, producing works that feel playful, sensuous, and materially sharp. In the context of Ventaglio, her approach makes the fan feel vividly alive – an object where the surface becomes a story.
